플립플롭은 단일 논리 상태 또는 정보의 "비트"를 저장할 수 있는 기본 디지털 메모리 장치입니다. 최소한 두 개의 입력이 있습니다. 하나 이상은 저장할 데이터를 전달하고 다른 하나는 데이터를 저장할 시점을 나타냅니다. D(지연), SR(Set-Reset) 및 JK와 같은 다양한 플립플롭 유형은 입력에 제공되는 신호에 다르게 반응하며 다양한 논리 기능을 구현하는 데 사용될 수 있습니다. 이는 유효한 클록 신호가 수신되는 순간에만 유지된 논리 상태가 변경되는 에지 감지 장치라는 점에서 래치와 다릅니다.
