BQ79731-Q1
The BQ79731-Q1 is a high-precision battery monitor IC designed for automotive and industrial applications requiring robust battery management. It supports up to 16 series-connected cells and features an integrated analog front-end (AFE) with 16-bit sigma-delta ADCs, enabling accurate voltage measurement across each cell with a typical accuracy of ±2 mV. The device includes built-in temperature sensing using a digital thermometer and supports external thermistor inputs for enhanced thermal monitoring.
This device offers comprehensive protection functionality, including over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature, and under-temperature detection per cell, along with cell balancing via internal FETs. Its configurable cell balance current allows efficient power dissipation control during balancing operations, extending battery life and improving safety. The BQ79731-Q1 also supports charge and discharge current sensing through an external shunt resistor, with precision measurements down to ±1% accuracy.
Communication is handled via a robust I²C interface compliant with the Automotive Grade 1 standard, supporting data rates up to 400 kbps. It includes hardware-based fault detection, watchdog timers, and self-diagnostics to ensure system reliability in harsh environments. The device operates from a supply voltage range of 3.0 V to 5.5 V and is designed to meet AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification, making it suitable for automotive-grade systems exposed to wide temperature variations and mechanical stress.
Its low-power operation and integrated diagnostics reduce the need for external components, simplifying system design while maintaining high performance. The BQ79731-Q1 is ideal for use in electric vehicle (EV) battery packs, energy storage systems, and industrial battery management solutions where safety, accuracy, and compliance with automotive standards are critical.
