STP16DPS05
STP16DPS05 is a high-performance, low-voltage N-channel power MOSFET manufactured by STMicroelectronics, designed for efficient switching applications in modern electronic systems. It features a maximum drain-source voltage (VDS) of 5V, making it ideal for low-voltage DC-DC converters and battery-powered devices where voltage regulation and efficiency are critical. The device offers a very low on-resistance (RDS(on)) of just 3.5 mฮฉ at VGS = 4.5V, which minimizes conduction losses and enhances overall system efficiencyโparticularly beneficial in portable electronics and energy-sensitive applications.
This MOSFET is optimized for fast switching speeds, with a typical gate charge (Qg) of 12 nC and a low input capacitance, enabling high-frequency operation without significant switching losses. Its advanced trench technology ensures excellent thermal performance and robust reliability under continuous load conditions. The STP16DPS05 also provides superior avalanche ruggedness and integrated body diode characteristics that support freewheeling current in inductive loads, making it suitable for motor drivers, buck converters, and power management circuits.
Packaged in a compact, lead-free 8-pin DFN (Dual Flat No-lead) package, the STP16DPS05 offers an excellent footprint-to-performance ratio, supporting high-density PCB designs. This surface-mount package facilitates automated assembly and improves thermal dissipation through direct copper connections to the PCB. Additionally, the device operates over a wide temperature range from -40ยฐC to +150ยฐC junction temperature, ensuring stable performance in demanding industrial and automotive environments.
Common applications include USB Power Delivery (USB PD) systems, LED lighting drivers, battery management systems (BMS), and point-of-load (POL) converters in servers and consumer electronics. Its combination of low RDS(on), high efficiency, and small form factor makes it particularly well-suited for space-constrained and power-efficient designs such as smartphones, wearables, and IoT devices. The STP16DPS05 also supports synchronous rectification in buck converters, reducing power loss and improving thermal management compared to traditional diode-based solutions.
