BlueNRG-LP

BlueNRG-LP is a low-power Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) system-on-chip (SoC) from STMicroelectronics, designed for ultra-low power consumption in wireless sensor and IoT applications. It integrates an ARM Cortex-M0 32-bit RISC processor, a BLE 5.0 radio transceiver, and a complete set of peripherals including analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), timers, and GPIOs, all optimized for minimal energy usage during active and sleep modes. The SoC operates at a supply voltage range of 1.7V to 3.6V and features dynamic power management with multiple low-power modes—such as Stop, Standby, and Shutdown—that enable sub-microamp current consumption in idle states. Its advanced power-saving architecture allows the device to remain responsive while consuming less than 1 μA in deep sleep mode, making it ideal for battery-powered or energy-harvesting systems. BlueNRG-LP supports full BLE 5.0 functionality, including enhanced advertising, longer data packets, and increased connection range. It also includes built-in security features like AES-128 encryption, secure boot, and hardware random number generator, ensuring robust protection for sensitive data transmissions in connected devices. The chip integrates high-precision internal oscillators and supports external crystal oscillators for accurate timing, enabling reliable operation across varying environmental conditions. It offers flexible memory configurations, including up to 512 KB of flash memory and 64 KB of SRAM, which accommodate complex firmware and real-time data processing tasks. Designed for ease of development, BlueNRG-LP comes with comprehensive software support, including ST’s STM32CubeMX configurator, BLE stack libraries, and development tools such as the BlueNRG-MS expansion board. These tools streamline integration into applications like smart home sensors, wearable health monitors, industrial automation nodes, and asset tracking solutions. Its compact form factor and rich peripheral set make BlueNRG-LP suitable for space-constrained designs where reliability, long battery life, and seamless connectivity are critical. The device is widely used in applications requiring periodic data transmission, such as temperature monitoring, motion detection, and proximity sensing, where minimizing power consumption without sacrificing performance is essential.
